NITheCS Hosts Successful Software Carpentry Workshop
From 16–20 March 2026, NITheCS hosted a Software Carpentry Workshop attended by 68 participants, highlighting strong demand for practical digital skills within the research community.
The five-day programme, held in a half-day format (09:00–13:00), struck an effective balance between intensive learning and participants’ professional commitments, supporting sustained engagement throughout the week.
The workshop was led by instructors Emily Morgan, Rehema Mukami, and Tafadzwa, and focused on three core areas of research computing: the Unix Shell for command-line automation and data handling, Git for version control and collaborative research, and programming with R for data analysis and visualisation.
Participants gained essential skills for managing data and ensuring reproducible research workflows—competencies that are increasingly vital in contemporary research environments.
NITheCS continues to prioritise capacity-building initiatives of this kind, with plans to expand future training to include more advanced computational topics.
