Our associates
Nominations
NITheCS issues an annual call for nominees for new Associates. Only current NITheCS Associates may nominate eligible individuals to join as individual Associates.
Eligibility criteria:
- A PhD in a NITheCS discipline and
- A current academic position at a recognised academic institution in South Africa.
Nominations must be supported by at least two additional NITheCS Associates and submitted via our ONLINE FORM. To access the form, please sign in to Google with your NITheCS email address.
Supporting documents required:
- Brief motivation: a concise statement highlighting the candidate’s key achievements and contributions to their field.
- Candidate’s CV: a comprehensive CV including a full list of publications.
- Candidate’s Statement: A statement from the candidate, outlining their research vision and future contributions to NITheCS.
An independent evaluation committee will review all nominations to ensure they meet the institute’s high standards.

An Associate is selected every 4 years to serve as Associate Representative. One of the Associate Representative’s key responsibilities is to represent the body of Associates at NITheCS strategic meetings.
The current Associate Representative is Prof Zurab Janelidze (Stellenbosch University).
