NITheCS Celebrates World Quantum Day with Public Talk and Launch
Today, NITheCS joins the global community in celebrating World Quantum Day with a special public event that brings together cutting-edge science and collaboration across Africa.
The highlight of today’s programme is a public talk by Dr Maria Schuld, a leading researcher in quantum machine learning. In her presentation, “Why is it so hard to know what quantum computers are good for?”, Dr Schuld will explore one of the biggest questions in modern science – what quantum computers can realistically achieve, and why it remains so difficult to predict their future applications.
In addition, NITheCS will mark this important occasion with the launch of the Quantum Africa Society, a new initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration, advancing research, and building a vibrant quantum ecosystem across the continent.
The event takes place today from 16h00 to 17h00 SAST, with multiple in-person venues and an online attendance option, making it accessible to a wide audience.
We invite all members of the scientific community, students, and the public to be part of this exciting celebration. Whether you are deeply involved in quantum research or simply curious about the future of technology, this is a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts and be part of a significant moment for quantum science in Africa.
