Another successful CHPC & NITheCS Coding Summer School
The 16th CHPC & 8th NITheCS Coding Summer School on Data Science and Machine Learning, jointly hosted by the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) and NITheCS, took place from 26 January to 6 February 2026 across more than 20 institutions in South Africa.
The two-week programme trained postgraduate students, researchers, and industry professionals in data science and machine learning, covering topics such as data analysis, visualisation, probability and statistics, and machine learning fundamentals using Python and modern computational tools.
Highlights included hands-on projects in housing data prediction, data visualisation, and working with tools such as Streamlit, Bash, and Conda environments, culminating in practical machine learning applications. Participants also engaged in collaborative and team-building activities that strengthened national research networks.
The Coding Summer School continues to play an important role in building South Africa’s data science and AI capacity by equipping participants with practical, in-demand computational skills.
