
Prof Willem Visser (Stellenbosch University & AWS)
Willem Visser is a Professor of Computer Science at Stellenbosch University and a Senior Principal Applied Scientist at Amazon Web Services, where he leads a team specialising in AI and automated reasoning. He previously spent eight years at NASA’s Ames Research Center and holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester.
A world leader in software engineering, Prof Visser is known for his contributions to Java PathFinder and Symbolic PathFinder. His research focuses on software testing, programme analysis, model checking and automated reasoning. He is an NRF A-rated researcher, ACM Distinguished Member and ISSTA Retrospective Impact Paper Award recipient, and serves as General Chair of ISSTA 2026.
