PhD position in Theoretical Astrophysics at Stellenbosch University
We invite applications for one funded PhD position in Theoretical Physics at Stellenbosch University, Stellenbosch, South Africa. The successful candidate will join the Theoretical Astrophysics Group under the supervision of Dr Anslyn John.
The group currently consists of 1 staff member, 1 postdoctoral researcher, and 3 postgraduate students. Our focus is on fundamental aspects of gravitational interactions and their application to problems in astrophysics and cosmology.
The university is in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch, in close proximity to Cape Town International Airport. The department has active research groups in Theoretical Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Nuclear Physics, and Photonics and hosts a large, diverse postgraduate community.
The bursary is valued at R 150 000 per annum for a maximum of 3 years. The commencement date is 1 March 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. Annual renewal of the bursary is subject to satisfactory progress.
Requirements
A master's degree or equivalent in Physics, Astronomy or a related discipline.
