Dear Associates and extended NITheCS family,
We’ve kicked off the year on a high note with the start of the CHPC and NITheCS Summer School. One of the largest summer schools in coding and the fundamentals of theoretical and computational science, it is taking place across 30 academic institutions in South Africa and Kenya for the next two weeks. This year’s school involves over 850 postgraduate students and researchers from the natural and social sciences. Read the news release.
Congratulations to NITheCS Associate Prof Jeff Murugan on his appointment as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation at the University of Cape Town. Another NITheCS Associate, Prof Professor Patrick Woudt, has been appointed as the Interim Director: Inter-University Institute for Data-Intensive Astronomy (IDIA). Our best wishes accompany them both.
We are finalising our programme for the first months of the year. I invite our Associates to suggest topics for NITheCS colloquia and mini-schools, and also to volunteer to present them. This spreads the word about work being done locally, while promoting interaction between disciplines. Please contact René Kotzé in this regard.
We would appreciate if you could also inform us about international visitors to your facilities, as we would consider inviting them to speak at NITheCS events. Contact me or René Kotzé about such visitors.
Also, please let us know if you have been appointed to a key leadership position or if you have recently published important articles. We would like to mention such achievements and news in our newsletter and elsewhere.
Lastly, we encourage you to follow us on social media, where we share news and more. The links are below.
We are looking forward to many mutually beneficial interactions with all our stakeholders.
