Dear Associates and Friends of NITheCS,

This month has been another month filled with activities to serve our community.

We have managed to leverage funding with the outstanding efforts of USAF and ETDP SETA, to assist students with historical debt (2021) to the tune of R4m.  There are around 150 students and 12 universities impacted by this exercise. This is a win win scenario, as those students can receive their degrees and continue with further studies. The universities involved also benefit from a considerable amount of debt being cleared. I would like to thank all parties who have been a part of this project and a special thanks to Ms Boitumelo Malele, the Project Manager at USAf, for her outstanding efforts to conclude this project.

The NRF has sent out a Call for Expression of Interest for the establishment of NITheCS. The call can be viewed here.

This month we hosted another of our Carpentries workshops. This time the focus was on creating more volunteer trainers to help students with various practical skills.

Last but not least, I would like to thank the entire community for all their collaborations and endeavours to make the South African science landscape a highly competitive one.

Best wishes for the month ahead.

Francesco Petruccione
